What Are Dentures?
A denture is a prosthetic device that replaces missing or unhealthy teeth. It provides support for your lips and cheeks and makes eating and smiling much easier.
Partial dentures are designed to replace a few missing teeth while fitting alongside natural teeth. Full dentures, on the other hand, replace a complete dental arch.
Well-made dentures can provide a huge boost to your self-confidence when you have lost your teeth.
Implant-Supported Dentures
The Basics of Implants
For ultimate stability and confidence, you can choose a denture supported by dental implants.
Dental implants are titanium screw-like devices that replace lost tooth roots. Implants fuse with your natural bone tissue and can then support full or partial dentures.
As a specialist in tooth replacement, Dr. Schmitt has decades of experience in implant dentistry. He can coordinate your implant treatment from our office in Altamonte Springs, FL, ensuring you end up with a smile that is functional and natural-looking.
All-on-4 Dental Implants
The All-on-4® approach is a landmark in modern dental care.
Before, implant-supported dentures could require as many as eight individual implants. Now, thanks to All-on-4, dentists can attach a full denture to just four implants.
There are numerous benefits to choosing the All-on-4 approach. It requires less healthy bone tissue than traditional implant placement, so many patients who would otherwise need a bone graft are candidates. These implants can also support a denture immediately following placement.
Extractions and Dentures in One Day
Dental extractions are sometimes necessary before a patient can receive dentures. If you need an extraction, you don't have to worry about walking out of our office with no teeth. We will make a set of dentures before your extraction procedure, and we can place them immediately after the teeth are removed.

Dr Scmidt and staff did a phenomenal job with my reconstruction. I’ve been in healthcare over 20 years and know first hand effort that goes into their group day by day to take care of their patients. They communicate every step of the way as far as your treatment plan. they are honest and transparent with expectations and plan including costs and expectations after care. The staff and team keep their facility pristine and i felt 100 percent safe even during these crazy times due to the safety measures, obvious attention to cleanliness and overall a pristine facility. Dr Schmidt and his staff is committed to the most personalized well run dental office I’ve ever been to. highly recommend and thank them for the great care.
View More Google ReviewsThe level of care and compassion that Dr. Schmitt and his staff provides is beyond words but I will still try to articulate. I’m almost always moved to tears with every experience. They treat each patient as if they are the only one. I hear it when I’m waiting in the waiting area and then I experience it for myself. Even when things go unplanned and I needed an impromptu appointment I was scheduled in. The appointment took longer than I expected but Dr.Schmitt never once made me feel rushed or a bother. I’m a single parent of two with a budgeted income-I can easily go somewhere else that is more in my price range or that bills to insurance. I chose Dr.Schmitt because he is committed to resolving my dental issues and he’s great at what he does! So I will save and cut corners in my spending habits and deal with my insurance on my own because Dr.Schmitt is worth it!

Before you receive dentures from our practice in Altamonte Springs, FL, it's important that you have appropriate expectations about what life with dentures will be like. Wearing dentures is a skill. It must be learned just like any other skill. It will be difficult at first, but your level of adaptability and attitude will play a large role.
The First Few Days
- You should eat a soft diet for the first few days. You should select foods that you can cut and place into the back of your mouth. Once you are chewing, you should learn to chew on both sides at once. Two-sided chewing will help stabilize the dentures.
- Excess saliva and gagging are problems that should subside after the first week.
- Your lower denture will probably be harder to adjust to than your upper denture. This is due to many factors: your lower jaw moving, your tongue moving, your lower jawbone being smaller, the lack of a good suction seal.
- Initially, chewing will be difficult and your speech will sound funny. You will learn to manage these problems better.
- Good nutrition and/or multivitamins will improve your ability to successfully wear your dentures.
Denture Care
- Dentures should be removed overnight, if possible. This rest period is essential for the long-term health of your gums and underlying bone.
- You should have two toothbrushes: one denture brush for the denture and one soft toothbrush for the gums and tongue. Never use toothpaste on dentures. It is too abrasive and will damage the plastic. Use soft soap or water. Soaking dentures is not a substitute for brushing.
- Dentures that are out of your mouth should be stored in clean water. This will prevent warpage that can occur when the plastic dries out.
The Future
- After teeth are removed, the jawbone will slowly shrink away. Significant changes usually occur within six to ten years. Wearing dentures actually accelerates this process. Wearing poorly fitting dentures will accelerate it even more. Dental implants can help stop this shrinkage.
- If you had teeth removed at the same time you received your denture, your gums will change greatly in the first six months. After six to nine months, a reline processed by the laboratory will be necessary.
